Petite Messe Solennelle – Ballett Am Rhein Dances Rossini

  • Between heaven and earth: Petite Messe solennelle © Gert Weigelt

This piece is full of dangers but it is also so beautiful that it just sweeps you along, Martin Schläpfer says about his full-length new choreography Petite Messe solennelle, premiered in June 2017 at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. It is fascinating how Rossini used both: ironic distance to integrate operatic elements and great honesty to present deeply religious material in this by no means “small” composition. The work offers Martin Schläpfer a fruitful range of associations between life, spiritual, divine, dance, theatre and poetry. Ballett am Rhein has been voted Company of the Year 2017 for the fourth time.
