3x3 – Three Luthiers For Three Violins
To what extent, and how does an individual luthier leave his mark on the instrument he builds? How important is the maker’s sensitivity during every single stage? To answer these questions, three Swiss luthiers, each with a different back-story and training, took up the challenge of embarking on a special experiment. Basing their work on the model of a violin by the Piacenza luthier, Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1711-1786), using the same wood and the same set-up, they made a copy. So what are the results? They reveal all in a documentary, 3x3, together with experts in acoustics from Milan University.
