Aida

Aida is Giuseppe Verdi’s third-last opera. Inspired by Egyptian religious traditions and antique musical instruments, which also reflects in the famous triumphal march, Verdi didn’t want to recount the Egyptian history, but to reflect and criticize on the misanthropic and inhumane society. The staging of Verdi’s opulent opera at the Salzburg Festival 2017 was the debut of Iranian artist and filmmaker Shirin Neshat directing an opera. The lead characters, sung by Anna Netrebko (Aida), Francesco Meli (Radamès) and Ekaterina Semenchuk (Amneris), as well as Riccardo Muti conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are an absolute musical delight.
