An American In Paris
Described by George Gershwin as an extended symphonic tone poem, his 1928 composition, An American in Paris was written on commission from the New York Philharmonic and rapidly became one of his most famous compositions, inspiring the 1951 MGM movie starring Gene Kelly, which went on to win six Academy Awards. In 2015, Paris finally came home to Broadway in a new stage adaptation of the film starring Leanne Cope and Robert Fairchild and directed and choreographed by dance wunderkind Christopher Wheeldon that garnered 13 Tony Award nominations.
