Sir Simon Rattle starts his tenure as the London Symphony Orchestra’s new Music Director with a supersize scale performance of Arnold Schönberg’s Gurrelieder at the prestigious BBC Proms. Among the outstanding vocal soloists are Eva-Maria Westbroek – “seductively expressive” (The Guardian), Simon O’Neill and Karen Cargill whose enchanting song of the Wood-Dove is “one of the highlights of the evening” (Evening Standard). Thomas Quasthoff “steals the show as the magnetic Speaker” (The Independent). With the force of over five hundred voices from the CBSO Chorus, the London Symphony Chorus and Orfeó Català the night is “an ecstatic celebration!” (The Guardian).
