Billy Budd

  • Billy Budd © Javier del Real / Teatro Real

This new production of Billy Budd by the Teatro Real, conducted by Britten music expert Ivor Bolton and staged by renowned director Deborah Warner, is a production loaded with symbolism, where the original boat of Billy Budd becomes a huge floating prison. The action takes place aboard a ship of the British Royal Navy and tells the story of the sailor Billy Budd: a beautiful young man, loyal, generous, strong, naive and kind. Billy’s physical attributes and charisma disarm the ship's master-at-arms who is incapable of controlling the situation and in the end, sacrifices the innocent lad without compunction.
