The fragile margin between dream and reality in the play Juliette, the Dream by French surrealist Georges Neveux lured Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu to write the first Czech opera libretto and to compose an opera in 1936. In the opera Juliette, people lack memory. It takes place in a poetic and fantastic atmosphere of a dream, where simultaneously nothing makes sense and everything is real and everything has meaning. The young Parisian bookseller Michel arrives in a peculiar town to find Juliette, whose voice he heard someplace. However, his dream escapes him more and more and he lives on in his own way...
