Don Carlos At The Paris Opera

The splendour of this production, which gathers, under the lead of the Paris Opera’s music director Philippe Jordan, the greatest performers of today’s opera scene (Sonya Yoncheva, soprano, Elina Garanca, mezzo-soprano, Jonas Kaufmann and Ludovic Tézier, tenors and Ildar Abdrazakov, bass), makes of this Don Carlos the blockbuster of the opera season. The Polish director Krzysztof Warlikowski masterfully retrieves the intimacy out of this potrayal of the King’s court, relieving this tragedy haunted by ghosts of any folklore and depicting the breathtaking destiny of Carlos, a new and genuine Hamlet crushed by fate.
