Festive Reopening Of The Staatsoper Unter Den Linden: Beethoven's Symphony No. 9

  • Bebelplatz Open Air © Thomas Bartilla

The reopening of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden after seven years of renovation is celebrated with the Ode to Joy and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in an open-air concert at the Bebelplatz. Surrounded by the Staatsoper, Humboldt University and Hotel de Rome, and bordered by Unter den Linden, there is no other location in Berlin that is as central – in both geographic and cultural terms – as Bebelplatz. For the Staatsoper for all (Staatsoper für Alle) concert, the Staatskapelle and Daniel Barenboim are joined by the Staatsopernchor and a quartet of supreme singers: Diana Damrau, Okka von der Damerau, Burkhard Fritz and René Pape.
