Joyce DiDonato, whose vocal performance has been described as both "ravishing nuanced" and "angelic", guest stars at the Berliner Philharmoniker's 2017 New Year's Eve Concert. She presents another facet of her artistic versatility with orchestral songs by Richard Strauss. The festive programme offers a wild rollercoaster of emotions: tender and carefree with Stravinsky's excerpts from the ballet Appolon musagète; exuberant with Leonard Bernstein's musical episodes; witty and sarcastic with Shostakovich's cultural criticism.
