Il Pomo D'Oro & Patrizia Ciofi: Händel – Women's Loves And Lives
Each of Händel’s female portraits is a kind of biography that consists of complicated emotions in which the character of a woman is created and developed. Like reality, his opera world is inhabited by happy and unhappy people who love, suffer, hate, betray and try to achieve their goals and happiness by all means. Even death, rather unwanted as a stage event in the exalted aesthetics of baroque opera, becomes a part of life – his heroes and heroines sometimes suffer a terrible death; put to music by Händel with frugal means, without great romantic pathos or decoration.
