Il Terremoto – Misteria Paschalia Krakow

  • Il Terremoto © Wojciech Wandzel / Misteria Paschalia Festival

In 1682 in Vienna, Italian composer Antonio Draghi decides to exploit the dramatic power of the earthquake described by the Gospel during the crucifixion of Christ. At this period during the Holy Week, spiritual dramas dedicated to the death of Jesus were performed in Vienna in the 17th century in order to make the audience to meditate on the sacrifice of the Savior. More used to write for the Imperial family’s courtier than for the faithful of a church, Draghi composed a sacred dark and spectacular opera: Il Terremoto.
