Gidon Kremer has always been an artist attentive to his time, this present time. His film, Images of the East focused on and around Pictures from the East by Robert Schumann, rose from this attunement. It is “a statement about refugees, about peace and love”, in his own words, made in collaboration with Syrian sculptor Nizar Ali Badr, who tells stories of the Syrian people’s ordeal through pebble arrangements, animated by Sandro Kancheli. The animation is synchronised with the music from Zodiac Melodies by Karlheinz Stockhausen, performed by Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica.
