Julie
"But what's contradictory in these two words? To love... To hate... Love, intermittent fever interrupted by the syncopes of hatred. Only indifference generates impotence" (Strindberg) It's not about love but about desire and power, a reflection about the human being seen in its intimacy in the most raw way. After openly playing with each other in a giddy duel, the two characters end up letting their masks fall. The references that linked them before break and the connection between them breaks, too, as if it was an enchantment. In the last scene, Jean makes Julia believe that suicide is the only way out.
