La Clemenca Di Tito (The Clemency Of Titus)

  • Russell Thomas, Jeanine De Bique, Willard White, Christina Gansch © ORF / Roman Zach-Kiesling

After his legendary stage productions in the 1990s, Mozart expert Peter Sellars made his comeback to the Salzburg Festival with La clemenza di Tito. He directed his interpretation of the opera as a vision of peaceful coexistence, reaching far beyond the historical context. The collaboration between conductor Teodor Currentzis and Peter Sellars, who also was in charge of the TV directing, complements the story about Emperor Tito conciliating his people and even forgiving his assassin Sesto with modern aspects and impressively depicts this allegory about power and kindness.
