Le Devin Du Village
On 19 September 1780, Queen Marie-Antoinette starred on the stage of her theatre in Versailles in Le Devin du village, an opera written by the famous philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Only a handful of invited guests had the honour of attending and the performance was a success at the court of Versailles. The queen sang the part of a young shepherdess whose feelings are put to test. 237 years later, Caroline Mutel sings the same part, in the same place with the same original sets.
