Macbeth

  • © Rosellina Garbo

The Italian director Emma Dante stages a witchy, barbaric and frenzied Macbeth where the witches’ bellies are containers of prophecies, magical wombs that give birth to the future. Lady Macbeth is truly evil, much more so than Macbeth himself, who appears totally subdued. A powerful show, in some ways blood-curdling but totally effective, with great care for details. The Italian soprano Anna Pirozzi gave a remarkable performance: she has a solid, powerful and unwavering voice, and her acting skills were equally convincing, portraying, with great maturity, a Lady Macbeth that appears determined, strong and authentically evil.
