After the last visit in May 2016, requests were quickly received from the audience and the orchestra: more Mahler with Eschenbach! The conductor really enjoyed Gothenburg and his insight into Mahler’s music resulted in transparency, flow and musical splendour. Qualities that can also elevate the Sixth Symphony to new heights, this fateful music with its heart-rending eruptions that give us a glimpse of death, but at the same time celebrates life. This is how Mahler reflects the existential conditions through music.
