Marcia Haydée – Temptation To Dance

  • Marcia Haydée with dancers of the Stuttgart Ballett © SWR

She has been called the “Maria Callas of dance” or “la maîtresse de la danse”. For Nurejev and Baryshnikov she was a sought-after solo partner and for world-famous choreographers she was “a muse, a daughter and an inspiration – la femme absolue”. Hardly any other prima ballerina of the 20th century has danced so many and such contrasting main roles, in which she was capable of being young and beautiful, old and ugly, funny or tragically distraught. The documentary film Marcia Haydée – Temptation to Dance is an appraisal of the life of a Brazilian in Stuttgart whom important ballet critics have described as the primadonna assoluta of the 20th century.
