Mister Butterfly – Barrie Kosky, Opera Magician
Born in Melbourne in 1967, Barrie Kosky, director of the Komische Oper in Berlin, produces his creations in the most prestigious theatres of the world. Spellbound by opera at the age of 7 during a representation of Madama Butterfly, the Australian with Hungarian, Polish and Russian origins is famous for his ability to combine demanding stagings with more entertaining ones. During the same year, he worked on Carmen at the Francfort Opera, on Shostakovich's The Nose at the Royal Opera House in London and on Wagner’s The Master-Singers of Nuremberg for Bayreuth. This film dives into the backstage worlds of those productions.
