Monteverdi 450 – Part I: L'Orfeo

  • Sir John Eliot Gardiner, cast © Caroline Doutre

On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth, an international cast of soloists together with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists under the baton of their artistic director Sir John Eliot Gardiner commemorate the Italian composer. Gardiner’s lifelong examination of Monteverdi’s work makes him uniquely qualified to celebrate him with the semi-staged opera trilogy L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and L’incoronazione di Poppea. Hana Blazikova stands out as Eurydice and Krystian Adams does his role of the demi-god Orfeo credit. “Monteverdi’s opera so timeless and fresh, as if it was just invented” (Salzburger Nachrichten)
