Monteverdi 450 – Part II: Il Ritorno D'Ulisse In Patria

  • Lucile Richardot, Krystian Adam © Caroline Doutre

Gardiner and his English Baroque Soloists, together with an international cast of soloists and the Monteverdi Choir, celebrate the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi’s birth with the semi-staged opera trilogy L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and L’incoronazione di Poppea. The orchestra takes centre stage, surrounding its conductor with its exotic and beautifully crafted period instruments. Furio Zanasi (Ulisse) impressively conveys the longing of the broken hero alongside an extremely expressive Lucile Richardot as Penelope. “Anyone who has had trouble to access Montiverdi’s music so far, should listen to this trilogy. A whole world will open up for him or her.” (FAZ)
