Monteverdi, an early 17th century genius, is being celebrated by Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists, one of the world’s leading period instrument orchestras. Together with the Monteverdi Choir – consistently being hailed as one of the best choirs in the world: “If there were a Nobel Prize for choirs, the Monteverdi Choir should be its laureate” (Le Monde) – they stage the surviving trilogy of L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and L’incoronazione di Poppea.
