Namibia's Forgotten Pianos

  • lost ivory © HJ Brandenburg

German composer Hans Brandenburg travels to Namibia where he discovers old German pianos in almost every city, remnants of the era when the country was a German colony. Many of the pianos have fallen into disrepair, but one man, Brian Ford, has made it his mission to save them from decay. Wherever Brandenburg and Ford tickle the ivories, regardless of how out of tune they may be, there are indigenous people who listen and share their own songs. An adventurous journey through the vastness of this fascinating country, inspired and set to music by its German colonial history.
