Sasha Waltz & Friends: Human Figure

  • Sasha Waltz & Friends in the Elbphilharmonie © Bernd Uhlig

A few days before the official oppening of the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, on 11 January 2017, the audience was invited to an original house-warming party. With the help of 80 musicians and dancers, choreographer Sasha Waltz took control of the place: the stage, but also the entrance, the stairs and corridors. Based, among others, on works by Hildegard von Bingen, Bela Bartok, György Ligeti and Dmitri Shostakovitch, the masterful performance was called Human Figure as a tribute to Francis Poulenc’s cantata composed in 1943 on a text by Paul Eluard. Human Figure celebrates the victory of freedom against violence and tyranny.
