Seiji Ozawa

  • © Michael J. Lutch

Seiji Ozawa was born in 1935 in China. After hurting his finger during a rugby game, and as fate would have it, he had to give up the piano for conducting, which soon turned out to be an excellent choice. He won the International Competition of Orchestra Conductors in Besançon, which marked the beginning of his international career and fame. He is the first Japanese conductor to be known in the western musical scene, and his benevolence, generosity and talent are acknowledged all over the world. He is the bond between the Occident and the Orient, between today and yesterday.
