Staatskapelle Dresden, Herbert Blomstedt & Sir András Schiff Perform Beethoven, Bach & Bruckner
On occasion of his 90th birthday, Herbert Blomstedt returns to Dresden. The great Swedish conductor played a decisive role in shaping the Staatskapelle as chief conductor from 1975 to 1985 – at a time when it was not self-evident that Western musicians took up a position in the GDR. For a magnificent performance of Beethoven’s first piano concerto, Blomstedt conducts Sir András Schiff, before turning to Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. The experienced Bruckner conductor chose the so-called Romantic to impress the audience in the Semperoper who were also treated to the Allegro from Bach's Italian Concerto.
