The Dream Of Gerontius
English people worship the Dream of Gerontius, a musical meditation on life after death. Its wonderful chorals, its Wagnerian inflexions... George Bernard Shaw bet on the immortality of Elgar’s music. He was not wrong. Created in 1900, this great oratorio often called the “English Parsifal”, is a national monument in England and rarely performed out of English borders. The role of the beneficient Angel is confided to Magdalena Kozena. Daniel Harding conducts the piece for the first time.
