This film tells two interwoven plot lines: The tragedy of loss and the search for the new perfect match between star violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann and his new instrument and the genesis of a completely new violin. After having to return “his” beloved Stradivarius, which was owned by West LB, Zimmerman turned to Martin Schleske one of the world’s finest violin makers. By documenting Schleske’s work, viewers do not only discover the craft of violin making, but also the miracle of the origin of sound.
