The Three Monteverdi Operas

  • © Michele Crosera

To celebrate the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi (1567 – 1643), the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra and John Eliot Gardiner went on tour in Europe and North America to perform the three remaining Monteverdi operas. The performances were filmed at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. 35 years separate the first and last opera written by Monteverdi. 35 years of life experience from innocence to a vision of a corrupt and destructive passion. All three operas have in common the presentation of the full range of human emotions, which makes them today still intelligible and moving.
