Anne-Sophie Mutter & Herbert Von Karajan – The Beethoven Finale

  • Anne-Sophie Mutter © Bastian Achard (2015)

It was the culmination of the partnership between Anne-Sophie Mutter and Herbert von Karajan. The result was a magical moment attended by nobody other than the musicians themselves as well as a camera team organised and paid for by Karajan himself. This unique recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto – produced as it was behind closed doors – was finally made available after Karajan's death. At the time, few people took the slightest notice. Despite this, it is perhaps the most significant document of the great conductor and his prodigious violinist.
