Anton Bruckner – A Giant In The Making
A portrait of the most misunderstood but most classical composer of the second half of the 19th century. From a poor background Bruckner became the most famous organ improviser of his time. Extracts from his choral compositions and all symphonies with the Munich Phil under Gergiev at St Florian show the progression towards the later masterpieces. Contributions from Gergiev, the director of St Florian Boys Choir and the current organists of St Florian, the old cathedral in Linz and the Court Chapel in Vienna, positions Bruckner held at various times, allow us a new look at this 19th century giant.
