Bedrich Smetana: Libuse
Live broadcast of Bedrich Smetana’s famous opera from the historic National Theatre. Libuse is not only a supreme festival opera; it is also a significant milestone in Czech national culture. Although completed in 1872, the work was first staged nine years later to mark the opening of the National Theatre. The opera is primarily intended for celebratory occasions and today the National Theatre only performs it on special occasions and state holidays.
