El Prometeo

  • Mariana Flores © Gilles Abegg / Opéra de Dijon

El Prometeo by Antonio Draghi has not been represented since December 1669! Written on a libretto in Spanish adapted from a play by Calderon, it was staged only twice the same year at the Vienna Imperial Court, for Mariana of Austria’s birthday party. The only original copy remains in this city. It is in this manuscript that Leonardo Garcia Alarcon – whose speciality is bringing back forgotten pieces – made his research to restore it, shedding light on a missing chain of the Opera History between Venetian lyrical tradition and one that reigned on Vienna in the following centuries.
