Salome

  • Asmik Grigorian © ORF/ Roman Zach-Kiesling

When Richard Strauss composed his opera Salome based on Oscar Wilde’s scandalous play, he also found his own new musical language. The unimaginable richness of timbres became the essential and unmistakable characteristic in this opera. Italian director Romeo Castellucci concepted his stage production of Salome at the Salzburg Festival as a minimalistic version “without a drop of blood”, with the main figure – sung by Asmik Grigorian – as key element and flame, that vitalizes its surroundings and consumes itself finally in the Dance Of The Seven Veils.
