Bugaku Nasori

  • © NHK – Japan Broadcasting Corporation

Gagaku (Japanese Imperial court music and dance) developed after the music and dance that were introduced from China more than 1,400 years ago became tied to the ancient performing arts of Japan. Bugaku is Gagaku accompanied by dance. The programme presents a dance duet titled Nasori, whose music and dance are provided by the Imperial Household Agency’s Music Department of the Board of Ceremonies which preserves the traditions of Gagaku. The dance piece that came from Korea is said to depict two dragons, one female and one male, playing happily. The dance was filmed at the Bugaku stage at the agency’s Music Department.
