Elisabeth Kuyper – The Little Dutch Lady From Muzzano
Elisabeth Kuyper was a pianist, conductor and composer of Dutch origin (1877–1953). Throughout her entire life, she fought valiantly to promote women across the various musical genres, setting up choirs and orchestras made up only of women in Europe and the USA. A pupil of Max Bruch in Berlin, she was the first woman to teach composition academically. Her works have been published and are once more starting to be known and performed. Kuyper spent the latter years of her life in Muzzano, near Lugano, in Italian-speaking Switzerland. RSI – Radiotelevisione Svizzera has now decided to uncover her past.
