The film highlights one of the lesser-known stories resulting from the African slave trade in the Americas: the tale of the resilient Garifuna people. Their music, dance and language have been declared by UNESCO to be “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.” The story of the Garifuna and their most popular musician, Andy Palacio, is one of tragedy and adversity, mysteries and unanswered questions. But also a tale of triumph, inspiration and hope that is driven by a stirring and soulful soundtrack of Garifuna musical traditions.
