Verbier Festival 2019 – Daniil Trifonov – A 20th-Century Piano Recital (TBC)

  • Daniil Trifonov © Idéale Audience

Arguably one of the most mesmerizing piano recitals on film: Daniil Trifonov offers a survey of 20th-century repertoire by playing a work from each decade, showing the evolution of piano writing. This immersive odyssey showcases the pianist's hypnotizing powers, holding the audience in the palm of his hands, overcoming every challenge and preconceived ideas the listener might have about the pieces. His Messiaen becomes an incantation, Corigliano's reminiscence of Beethoven's 7th symphony is magical and mysterious. And in Cage's 4'33, Trifonov's sheer charisma imposes total silence in the audience.
