Giuseppe Verdi’s emotional political thriller, brilliantly captured in Andreas Kriegenburg’s puristic staging, becomes a musical feast in Salzburg, starring a high-class ensemble under Valery Gergiev’s baton: Luca Salsi as Boccanegra, René Pape as Fiesco, Marina Rebeka enchants as Amelia and Charles Castronovo as Gabriele Adorno.
