Berlin Celebrates Beethoven
After months of cultural standstill, the Staatsoper Berlin started its new season with a spectacular open air event: in honour of Ludwig van Beethoven and his 250th birthday, Daniel Barenboim and his Staatskapelle presented this concert also as a signal of hope and confidence in the survival of culture in hard times. Most prominent support came from star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter performing Beethoven’s Romances while Beethoven’s 9th symphony under strict Corona regulations offered quite some extra challenges for orchestra, choir and the TV crew – admirably mastered and turned into a big success for the live audience and on TV.
