Longing From Afar – Dozan Fujiwara Plays Dai Fujikura
Dozan Fujiwara is a pioneer in traditional music of Japan who is also dubbed the “nobleman of shakuhachi flute". As a piece to forge his path in performing during the pandemic, Fujiwara played Longing From Afar created by London-based composer Dai Fujikura for the programme. It is a piece where the musical instruments to be used and the length of the notes are left to the performers. A group of seven shakuhachi players including Dozan will present the piece written to be performed remotely by an ensemble.
