Teatro Amazonas

We accompany the members of the Amazonas Philharmonic in the Teatro Amazonas during the Opera Festival, the artistic director, the conductor Maestro Marcelo de Jesus and other staff members. This opera house is located where one least expects it: At the heart of the world’s largest contiguous rainforest, at the confluence of the Rio Negro and the Rio Solimoes, which marks the actual beginning of the Amazon River proper. The magnificent neoclassical building in the centre of the Amazon metropolis Manaus seats over 700 people and was the second largest opera house at its inauguration in 1896, second only to the Milan Scala.
