Black Musicians – White Music. Is There Racism In The Classical Music Industry?
There seem to be few places where people of different colors work together as harmoniously as in a symphony orchestra. But a closer look shows that one color is missing: Black classical stars like Sheku Kanneh-Mason cannot hide the fact that that there are practically no black musicians in orchestras or among conductors in Europe. What is the reason for this? Is it because of social barriers or a lack of role models? Or is it due to a structural racism that many in the industry are perhaps not even aware of?
