Fauré In Lugano
Pénélope… in Gabriel Fauré’s fertile imagination, the shores of Lake Lugano morphed into the Mediterranean Sea lapping against the beaches of mythical Itaca. Lugano was the French composer’s beloved destination, a port of call in which he could immerse himself during his summer visits and where he composed his only opera. Between 1909 and 1913, during the hottest months of the year, the Swiss city played host to the famous musician and witnessed the birth of some of his most successful compositions: La chanson d’Ève, the Préludes op. 103, the Barcarolle no. 10.
