L'Angelica
Nicola Porpora gave a key contribution to the dissemination and assertion of Neapolitan school works in Austria and Germany. L’Angelica is a baroque serenade, a dramatic cantata on a libretto by Metastasio inspired by the poems of Ariosto and Boiardo. It was premièred in Naples in 1720 and marked the debut of the fifteen-year-old Carlo Broschi, known as Farinelli, who was Porpora’s pupil. The splendid costumes are by Gianluca Falaschi, one the greatest Italian costume designers. On the podium, Federico M. Sardelli, conducting Ekaterina Bakanova in the title role.
