Mozart Week: Chamber Music With Members Of The Wiener Philharmoniker
Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, completed on September 29, 1789, is one of the most beautiful musical friendship pieces in music history. In Mozart’s circle, it was called “Stadler Quintet” because he wrote it for the Viennese clarinetist Anton Stadler. Mozart loved the clarinet for its timbre similar to the singing voice and no other 18th century clarinetist expressed this similarity better than Stadler. In this concert, the famous “Stadler Quintet” can be heard together with the String Quartet in C major K. 157, the Flute Quartet in D major K. 285, and a short fragment K. 516d.
