Signac As A Collector
Paul Signac (1863-1935), one of the major figures of the Neo-Impressionist movement along with Georges Seurat, amassed a collection of around 250 paintings and drawings over the course of his life. This collection, today largely dispersed, is as important to the history of art as it is impressive. Offering a panorama of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, it includes works by Delacroix, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Degas, Cézanne and Pissarro. This selection, of remarkable coherence and quality, offers unexpected insights into both Signac’s work and his personality. Above all, his collection exemplifies his passionate involvement with the art world, placing him at the intersection of diverse avant-garde movements.
