77. Prague Spring International Music Festival, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra – My Country
Smetana's cycle My Country consists of six symphonic poems, including the world-famous piece Vltava / The Moldau. The cycle is traditionally performed at the Opening of the Prague Spring Music Festival, which starts every year on 12 May, the anniversary of Smetana's death - this time played by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Thomas Guggeis. Daniel Barenboim, the co-founder of the WEDO, noted that ‘Má vlast’ was a very poignant piece for the WEDO, in which young Israeli and Arab musicians play side by side, especially at this time.
