Don Carlos

For the first time in company history, the Metropolitan Opera presents the original five-act French version of Verdi’s Don Carlos in a striking new production by David McVicar. The epic opera tells the story of doomed love amongst royals during the Spanish Inquisition, with Patrick Furrer leading an all-star principal cast. Tenor Matthew Polenzani sings the title role, with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Élisabeth de Valois and mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton as Eboli. Bass-baritones Eric Owens and John Relyea are Philippe II and the Grand Inquisitor, and baritone Étienne Dupuis rounds out the principal cast as Rodrigue.
